Beach Whiskey and Puerto Viejo Wines LLC took home gold medals at the Grand Tasting Awards during ECRM’s On-Premise Adult Beverage EPPS earlier this month.

Beach Whiskey’s Island Coconut-flavored whiskey won for Best Spirit category, which was judged by Nightlife and Bar expert Niccole Trzaska, and Puerto Viejo de Piedra’s Merlot won for the wine category, judged by former White House Military Chef Sam Morgante. Biggar & Leith’s Malfy Dry Gin (spirits) and Barton & Guestier French Wine (wine category) took silver medals.

"Beach Whiskey Really took a shot and created something unique and out of the box,” said Trzaska. “They wanted to create something that they enjoyed to drink with their friends outdoors. One sip of the Coconut Beach Whiskey and you can tell they cut zero corners to ensure that this was authentic and true to nature. In fact many people approached me after the Grand Tasting asking where they can buy it.

“The Malfy Gin was incredibly fresh, vibrant and true to flavor,” added Trzaska. “It has all of the characteristics of the Amalfi Coast on the nose and is so smooth. To see someone take a chance on a spirit that is not necessarily from that region or country for that matter its really cool."

Wine Judge Chef Morgante, said that “Puerto Viejo de Piedra’s Merlot was a “beautiful blend of Merlot enhanced by the perfection of coloring and aromatics. A true gold winner representing their region and culture, and a must have wine in your personal collection and at every restaurant as a high end selection.”

“Barton & Guestier’s French Wines were the perfect blend of a French indigenous wine enhanced by the expertise of the French perfection,” added Morgante. “The flavors could not be improved upon -- truly a couples wine that both can enjoy in any venue. I would have no reservation serving this wine at a state dinner or even my own daughter’s wedding.”

Attendee’s Choice Awards
In addition to the judges’ awards, EPPS attendees selected their favorites for the Attendees’ Choice categories. Two companies tied for the Gold Medal: Chatham Imports (which won a Silver Medal at the Grand Tasting for ECRM’s Global Wine, Beer & Spirits EPPS) and Origin North America, and the Silver Medal winner was Bom Bom Brands
